SCNS: A “dormant” ITO cell was suppressed during a special operation

Bishkek, Nov. 2, 2018. /Kabar/. The State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of the Kyrgyz Republic suppressed the activities of a “dormant” cell of an international terrorist organization (ITO) operating in the territory of Chuy oblast during counter-terrorism measures on October 25, 2018, which resulted in the arrest of five foreign citizens and four citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic, the press service of the Committee reported.

It has been established that since 2017, members of the terrorist cell had been actively involved in recruiting ordinary citizens of the republic in the ranks of militants in Syria and Afghanistan, and also had intentions to organize sabotage and subversive actions in Kyrgyzstan using firearms and improvised explosive devices.

The criminal group also included foreign citizens, immigrants from other countries of the CAR / CIS, who were wanted in their home country for alleged involvement in terrorist activities. They were sent to Kyrgyzstan on the instructions of the emissaries of ITO with the task of settling and preparing the necessary conditions for the adoption of the most experienced ITO militants.

In the present period, the investigating authorities of the State Committee for National Security are conducting a respective set of measures, including in cooperation with the special services of foreign countries in the framework of the initiated criminal case.
