SCO Security Council Secretaries to meet in Kyrgyzstan in April

Bishkek, Jan. 12, 2019. / Kabar /. In the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, a meeting of secretaries of the Security Councils of the SCO member states will be held in Bishkek in the third decade of April 2019, the Kyrgyz President’s press service reported citing Secretary of the Security Council of the Kyrgyz Republic Damir Sagynbaev as saying.

He noted that within the framework of the upcoming SCO Summit three major events are planned, such as a meeting of ministers of defense, foreign ministers and secretaries of the Security Councils of the SCO member states.

“Currently, the secretaries of the Security Council confirm their participation. In mid-February 2019, an expert meeting of relevant representatives of the secretariats and staffs of the Security Councils of all 8 SCO member states will be held in Beijing, China, where the final date for the meeting of secretaries of the Security Councils discussed,” Sagynbaev said.

He added that at the upcoming meeting it was planned to consider the final draft materials, including the draft Protocol. The draft Protocol of the Security Council Secretaries includes 17 items - these are issues of cross-border crime, counteraction against religious extremism and terrorism and other main areas related to the SCO.

“Since the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is quite a large and weighty international organization, the Kyrgyz Republic carries out activities related to ensuring security and law and order during the preparation and conduct of all the SCO activities. Based on this, the Security Council Secretariat together with the Government is developing a draft joint plan to ensure security and public order,” the Security Council Secretary noted, assuring that emergencies are excluded.
