In Kyrgyzstan, 1 million 428 thousand people, or 63% of target group of population have been vaccinated with first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 1 million 156 thousand people - with booster dose, Director of the Republican Immunoprophylaxis Center of the Ministry of Health of the republic Gulbara Ishenapysova told during a press conference at Kabar News Agency.
She added that the total target population is 2 million 249 thousand people.
"Thus, by September 2021 we achieved the target strategy of the World Health Organization (WHO), namely, 10% vaccination coverage was reached out of 6 million 630 thousand people by Sept. 10. Moreover, it was planned to reach 40% coverage by the end of 2021, but we failed. According to the WHO, 70% of the population needs to be vaccinated by the beginning of summer to provide collective immunity," Ishenapysova said.
In addition, the director of the Immunoprophylaxis Center noted that today 30% of the total population (2 million 500 thousand) are children under the age of 18, who are not allowed to be vaccinated.
"However, to date, with the permission of parents vaccination is carried out to children aged 16-17 years,” the specialist concluded.
Kyrgyzstan started the vaccination campaign on March 29, 2020. The country is inoculating its citizens with Sinopharm, Sputnik-V, Sputnik-Light, Astra Zeneca, Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.
