Tashkent, Mar. 13, 2019. /Kabar/. The 9th regional meeting for Central Asia was held in the capital of Uzbekistan with the participation of national coordinators of centers of excellence in chemical, biological, radiation and nuclear materials (CBRNM), the UzA news agency reported.
Coordinator of the European Union's Center of Excellence in Central Asia Tristan Simonart told that ongoing projects in the countries of the region in this area are aimed at good causes.
At the event, information on the activities of the Regional Secretariat was provided. In particular, special attention was paid to discussion of the innovative project “Popularization of the EU’s Initiative to Reduce the Risk of the CBRNM Action and the Jayron Field Exercise among Various Population Groups”. There was also a presentation of the national action plans of the centers of excellence of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan for the CBRNM.
It was noted that the project “Management of Chemical and Biological Waste in the Countries of Central Asia”, developed by the EU, is being actively implemented in Uzbekistan. Currently, the project “Strengthening the National Legal Framework and Provision of Specialised Training on Biosafety and Biosecurity in Central Asian Countries” is nearing completion.
During the meeting, national action plans of the states of the region for the implementation of the UN Security Council resolution on reducing the risks of exposure to the CBRN were reviewed.
The event was attended by representatives of Afghanistan, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan, as well as the EU and several other international organizations.
