Seoul hosts event in honor of 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kyrgyzstan and Korea

Bishkek, Jan. 31 2022. / Kabar /. The Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Korea mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries on Jan. 31, 2022.

In this regard, a solemn event was held in Seoul, organized by the Kyrgyz Embassy in the Republic of Korea, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan said.

The event was attended as guests of honor by Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Korea Yo Seung-bae and Chairman of the Committee for Northern Economic Cooperation under the President of South Korea Park Chung-soo, as well as heads of departments, large South Korean companies and associations, heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Seoul.

In her welcoming speech, Kyrgyz Ambassador Dinara Kemelova noted that the Republic of Korea is one of the key partners of Kyrgyzstan in the Asia-Pacific region. For 30 years, Kyrgyzstan and Korea have strengthened relations of friendship and cooperation in all areas of mutual interest. An active political dialogue is being conducted through the exchange of visits at the highest and high levels, more than 50 bilateral agreements have been signed, and there is great potential for expanding mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation. A record for the volume of bilateral trade turnover was registered, which exceeded over 110 million US dollars in 2021.

At present, every effort is being made in Kyrgyzstan to create a favorable investment climate, political and socio-economic transformations are being carried out. She called on Korean businessmen to expand their business in Kyrgyzstan in such areas as the development of cities and regions, energy, agriculture, mining and textile industries, transport, tourism and the construction of tourist facilities, airports. She also noted that Kyrgyzstan is interested in promoting the Korean initiative of the "New Northern Policy" of President Moon Jae-in and participating in its events and projects. She expressed her gratitude to the Korean side for assisting the Kyrgyz Republic in democratic and socio-economic transformations, as well as for assistance in the fight against COVID-19.

In turn, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Yo Seung-bae noted that since independence, the Kyrgyz Republic has achieved rapid economic development through economic and social innovation and the development of democracy and a market economy. Kyrgyzstan is a partner country of South Korea in the New Northern Policy. The Korean government is taking measures to strengthen and expand systemic cooperation with Kyrgyzstan. In particular, the KOICA office, the Center for the Korean International Agricultural Development Program (KOPIA), as well as the Korea Telecom office in Bishkek were opened in January 2022. In addition, Kyrgyzstan is included in the list of priority countries under the line of Official Development Assistance until 2025.

Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Korea Yeo Seung-bae expressed hope that cooperation in the development sphere between the two countries will serve as an important milestone for improving the quality of life of the people of Kyrgyzstan and expanding economic cooperation in the future. He also noted that the parties will strengthen cooperation in the field of climate and the environment, as well as increase the pace of cooperation in the field of digital technologies.

The diplomatic relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Korea were established on January 31, 1992.
