Bishkek, Feb. 3, 2022 . / Kabar /. In 2020, the volume of the non-observed (hidden and informal) economy in Kyrgyzstan, estimated from the production side, was almost KGS 125 billion, or 20.8% of GDP.
The National Statistics Committee of the republic reported that due to restrictions related to pandemic coronavirus (COVID-19), the share of the non-observed economy in relation to GDP in 2020 decreased by 2.7 percentage points compared to the previous year.
The decrease in the share of the non-observed economy to GDP is due to its reduction in wholesale and retail trade activities, repair of cars and motorcycles (by 2.6 percentage points), hotels and restaurants (by 0.5 percentage points), and other activities (by 0.2 percentage points).
Compared to 2016, the share of the non-observed economy declined by 3.7 percentage points in 2020 due to a decrease in its share of wholesale and retail trade (by 3.5 percentage points).
