Shooting taking place on border between Kyrgyz, Tajik military

Bishkek, April 29, 2021 . / Kabar / . A shooting is taking place on border between military of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan around the Golovnoi water intake in Batken region, Governor of Kyrgyzstan’s Batken Oblast Omurbek Suvanaliyev told Kabar News Agency.

"We are engaged in mobilization affairs. We are sending ambulances there and preparing hospitals," he said.

As for victims and casualties, the governor said information will be available later.

Situation on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan escalated on April 28 after citizens of Tajikistan began installing video surveillance cameras at the water intake in the village of Kok-Tash in Batken region.

As a result of the joint altercation, residents of the two countries began throwing stones at each other. Subsequently, the Tajik side began shooting at passing cars of Kyrgyz citizens with hunting rifles.

As a result, 8 Kyrgyz citizens were injured, one of them received a gunshot wound to the eye. The situation at the border is assessed as aggravated.
