Situation on Kyrgyz-Tajik border is relatively stable, but with elements of tension

Bishkek, Sept. 21, 2022 . / Kabar / . As of 9:00 a.m. Sept. 21, the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border in Chong-Alay region of Osh Oblast and Batken Oblast is relatively stable, but with elements of tension.

The night of Sept. 20-21 was calm, without incidents, the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of Kyrgyzstan said.

Since Sept. 20, works are carried out on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section on the detection, cleaning and disposal of unexploded shells, mines, ammunition and other explosive materials in the border areas.

Subdivisions of the SCNS Border Service deployed in the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border continue to serve in a reinforced mode.

The clashes on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border started on Sept. 14.

The Tajik side attacked border guarding and civilian infrastructure objects of Kyrgyzstan along the perimeter of the state border in Batken Oblast. Tajikistan used heavy armored vehicles, multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) and aircraft in an attempt to seize the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic.

According to the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Tajik military destroyed the infrastructure of outposts, as well as schools, kindergartens, retail outlets, first-aid posts, and houses. Shouting nationalist slogans, they showed blasphemy and subjected the bodies of the border guards of the Kyrgyz Republic who died at the post to mockery.

An emergency regime has been introduced in Batken Oblast.
