Bishkek, Nov. 4, 2020. /Kabar/. Six criminal cases have been instituted in Kyrgyzstan on the fact of illegal actions during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, Prosecutor General of the republic Kurmankul Zulushev said during a press conference on Wednesday.
He noted that, in particular, cases were initiated on the facts of measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the purchase of PPE and medical products, the sale of drugs allocated by World Health Organization, as well as on facts of material enrichment, lobbying the interests of the pharmaceutical company during tenders.
All cases are in pre-trial proceedings. Prosecutor General Zulushev noted the need to prescribe a norm to set time limits for the investigation and further transfer cases to court soon.
On Sept. 15, 2020 ex-Minister of Health of the republic Kosmosbek Cholponbayev was detained on suspicion of negligence and power abuse.
Earlier, the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes has opened a criminal case on suspicion of negligence and abuse of office in relation to the responsible persons of the Kyrgyz Health Ministry.
It was found that a leaders of the Health Ministry, abusing their official position, as well as against the interests of the people and the state, entered into an unprofitable contract for the provision of consulting services, which caused damage to the state budget in the amount of about KGS 9 million.
Kyrgyzstan has been fighting COVID-19 coronavirus infection since March 18.
The republic has reported 60,774 novel coronavirus cases so far, including 51,815 recoveries.
The death toll stands at 1,163.
