Bishkek, Oct. 17, 2024. /Kabar/. Rescuers are searching for six missing people in the Chatkal mountains of Kyrgyzstan’s Jalal-Abad Oblast, the press service of the republic’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said.
Two rescue teams have been sent to search for them. The operation to search for citizens trapped under the avalanche is headed by Minister of Emergency Situations Boobek Azhikeyev.
Today, Oct.17, 20 rescuers were sent to search for Kyrgyzstanis left under the avalanche.
On Oct. 9, a group of 13 local residents and one Chinese citizen went to the mountains to collect plant roots, after which their disappearance was reported on Oct. 16.
As a result of the search on Oct. 16, two of the missing were found near the village of Korgon-Sai, and six others were found alive after crossing the Kum-Bel Pass.
“According to those rescued, the remaining six were covered by a snow avalanche on the Ak-Sai Pass around 6 p.m. on Oct.14,” the report said.
Emergency Minister Azhikeyev said a helicopter is being prepared to search for the victims.
“As soon as the weather permits, the helicopter will immediately go to the site,” he added.
