Bishkek, Dec. 1, 2020. /Kabar/. At a briefing on Tuesday, Acting Mayor of Bishkek Balbak Tulobayev commented on the situation with smog.
According to him, in summer smog is created by exhaust gases of cars, and in winter in addition to gases of cars, the coal combustion in new buildings, power plants, etc. are observed.
"The Mayor's Office cannot solve problems with smog on its own. This issue has to be addressed in a comprehensive manner together with the people and the government. We believe that the first option is to gasify all new buildings. But an average of KGS 20 thousand is needed for gas supply to the house, the people do not have such an amount. Therefore, we are considering options for three years in installments, but this is still a project,” said Tulobayev.
He also mentioned a meeting with head of the State Inspection for Environmental and Technical Security (SIETS) to discuss problems with exhaust gases of cars.
"It turns out that cars are used to remove catalytic converter parts, which filter toxic particles. Now we solve this issue together with the inspection," said the acting mayor.
In his opinion, people should also understand their responsibility and stop burning textile and chemical waste.
In late November, air pollution in the capital exceeded last year's figures by 35-50%.
The Bishkek Mayor's Office in cooperation with the Institute of Environmental Solutions public foundation is launching the Taza Aba (Clean Air) project, under which 39 air quality control sensors are expected to be installed across the capital.
The main causes of air pollution in Bishkek are massive use of coal for heating, coal-fired cogeneration plant right in the heart of the city and a huge number of old vehicles.
