Smog reduction observed in Bishkek, Chui Oblast, says minister

Bishkek, Jan. 20, 2025. /Kabar/. Reduction in the level of smog is observed in Bishkek and Chui Oblast, Minister of Ecology, Natural Resources and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan Meder Mashiev said at a meeting of the Committee on Agrarian Policy, Water Resources, Ecology and Regional Development of the Jogorku Kenesh on Monday.

Mashiev presented the results of the interdepartmental commission, which coordinated activities to improve air quality in Bishkek and Chui Oblast.

This commission found a decrease in smog in 2024. However, the minister recognized that smog remains, but it is less compared to the state in 2021, in which the maximum concentration of air pollution was observed.

The ecology minister of Kyrgyzstan the reduction of smog was facilitated by measures to extinguish the fire at the landfill, organization of waste disposal of sewing shops, withdrawal of more than 3 thousand shuttle buses from Bishkek, introduction of ecological buses, and others.

According to international organizations, smog is generated by emissions from:

- private sector - 40%;

- old cars, 30%;

- THERMAL POWER PLANTS - 15%;

- natural dust - 13.5%.

Meder Mashiev added that smog is also observed in Osh and Jalal-Abad, the causes of which will be studied by working groups.
