Every second death in Kyrgyzstan is caused by cardiovascular diseases, smoking is one of the risk factors, head of the scientific-organizational and methodological department of the National Center for Cardiology and Therapy named after Mirrahimov, member of the Association of Cardiology of Kyrgyzstan, Professor Ryskul Kydyralieva told reporters at Kabar News Agency.
She said that smoking is among the so-called big three risk factors. “If we say arterial hypertension is the number one risk factor, then smoking has moved to second place - number two killer. Many studies have shown that those, who smoke 5–7 times more, they likely to have heart attacks and strokes, mortality is 70% higher, they live 10–15% less,” she said.
Kydyralieva informed that in the Kyrgyz Republic up to 50 people die every day from cardiovascular diseases, more than 18.5 thousand patients per year.
“If we take these indicators in the context of the European region in comparison with other countries, then our country breaks all records. Today, according to the latest data, Kyrgyzstan ranks first or second in terms of a standardized mortality rate per 100 thousand people,” the professor said.
