Tashkent, Sept. 25, 2017 / Kabar /. The resolution of Kyrgyz-Uzbek border issues eased the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Uzbek Parliament Sadyk Safayev told at a meeting with journalists at the regular meeting of the International Press Club in Tashkent.
He said that Uzbekistan has always declared the priority of Central Asia in its foreign policy.
"As a result, obstacles were created for economic, cultural, scientific and family ties. I want to say that in a short period, as a result of the implementation of an active regional policy on the part of Uzbekistan, a new political atmosphere has arisen in Central Asia. The times have passed when there was distrust between us, expectation of something bad. Problems are still present and we need to work hard over them, but the intensity and monthly meetings lead the peoples to rapprochement," he stressed.
Safayev said that the Uzbek President proposed to establish a systemic mechanism for meetings of the heads of the states of Central Asia. He believes that, this is very important, since the leaders must meet and resolve issues that are of concern to the people. As an example, he called Uzbek-Kyrgyz relations, when the solution of border issues "made the life easier for hundreds of thousands of people."
"We have common problems - water, power system problems. If earlier we avoided their discussion, now Uzbekistan is ready to find a solution based on mutual interests. This is a very important position. This is done also to attract foreign investments," the senator said.
In his opinion, investors are not interested in a region divided by national borders, they need a large and comprehensive region. "The policy initiated by President Mirziyoyev is important not only for Uzbekistan, but also for Central Asia and the world community," Safayev said.
