Bishkek, Oct. 16, 2020. /Kabar/. "I express my great gratitude to all Kyrgyz people who believed in me and supported me during these three years of presidency, to all branches of government, state and local bodies with which I worked together, to my office, civil society and media," Sooronbay Jeenbekov noted today at the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, at which he officially announced about voluntary resignation as president.
According to the press service of the Kyrgyz president, Jeenbekov noted that there were shortcomings and flaws in his work, asking his compatriots to apologize for them. He also wished every Kyrgyz citizen good health and happiness.
"May peace and prosperity reign in every home. I wish success to the new government, which laid on its shoulders the responsibility for the fate of the country and people. The fate of each of us depends on the will of the Almighty. May Almighty and Merciful Allah protect our beloved Motherland, and may peace and harmony always reign on our gracious land! Good luck to you, dear compatriots," Jeenbekov emphasized.
Sooronbay Jeenbekov, 61, resigned on Thursday amid ongoing protests in Bishkek.
He took office of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic exactly three years ago - on Oct. 15, 2017.
