Bishkek, Sept. 17, 2020. /Kabar/. "The uncompromising fight against corruption will be continued," Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov said Thursday at a regular meeting of the country’s Security Council, his press service reported.

The meeting considered two issues - summing up the work of law enforcement agencies to combat corruption in the republic, as well as the draft of a new State Strategy for 2021-2024 to combat corruption in the Kyrgyz Republic and eliminate its causes.

In his speech, President Jeenbekov recalled that an uncompromising fight against corruption was announced at a meeting of the Security Council in February 2018.

"We held three Security Council meetings on this issue. In January this year, we heard the information of heads of the state bodies about the implementation of the Security Council decisions. The fight against corruption has covered all levels of government," the president said.

Sooronbay Jeenbekov emphasized that heads of a number of state bodies were severely punished for improper implementation of the anti-corruption measures, proposed by the Security Council.

He added that during 2018-2019 and 8 months of 2020, the damage caused to the state amounted to KGS 13.6 billion, KGS of which KGS 5 billion 827 million were compensated to the state.

"This is certainly not enough, out of KGS 13 billion, half has not yet been returned to the treasury. Works in this direction should be strengthened,” said the head of state, emphasizing once again that there will be no mercy for those who rob the state budget and use their official position for illegal enrichment.

He noted that punishment for those who want to get rich at the expense of the state and citizens is a requirement of society, reminding that the implementation of all decisions of the Security Council is under his special control.

The regular meeting of Kyrgyzstan's Security Council was held on Sept. 17 with the participaion of heads of state bodies.

Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov, Chairman of the State Committee for National Security Orozbek Opumbayev, Prosecutor General Otkurbek Dzhashmitov and Chairman of the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes Bakir Taiyrov made reports on the issue of work of law enforcement agencies to combat corruption in the republic.

Secretary of the Security Council Damir Sagynbayev presented the draft State Strategy to Combat Corruption.
