Speaker Dzhumabekov meets with Azeri leader Ilham Aliyev

Bishkek, Dec.18, 2019. /Kabar/. Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Dastanbek Dzhumabekov met with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament said.

During the meeting, the sides discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as the strengthening of inter-parliamentary dialogue.

Dastanbek Dzhumabekov conveyed the greetings from Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov to the people of Azerbaijan, who also wished fruitful work to the 9th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking Countries (TURKPA).

In turn, Ilham Aliyev talked about opportunities to strengthen economic, tourist and cultural ties between the brotherly countries - Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan.

"We are linked with common history and culture. Therefore, we should attach great importance to cooperation within the framework of the Council of Turkic Speaking Countries and TURKPA," the head of Azerbaijan said.

During the meeting, the speaker and the Azeri leader exchanged views on such projects as the opening of the Baku-Bishkek direct airline, the Kyrgyz-Azerbaijani friendship park, construction of a new school in Bishkek with the support of Azerbaijan.

Note that Parliamentary Delegation, headed by Speaker Dastanbek Dzhumabekov, takes part in the 9th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking Countries (TURKPA).

The Plenary Session is held in Baku, Azerbaijan on Dec.17-19. The Kyrgyz delegation consists of 7 MPs.

The TURKPA in full, the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking Countries, is an international organization comprising some of the Turkic countries. It was founded on Nov.21, 2008 in Istanbul.

The General Secretariat is in Baku, Azerbaijan. The member countries are Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Turkmenistan. Since late 2018, Hungary is an observer.
