Bishkek, Mar. 5, 2019. /Kabar/. Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh (Kyrgyz Parliament) Dastanbek Dzhumabekov received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to the Kyrgyz Republic Alok Amitabh Dimri, the press service of the parliament reported.
The Speaker, congratulating the Ambassador on the commencement of his diplomatic mission in Kyrgyzstan and wishing success in his future work, expressed the interest of the Kyrgyz side in expanding the cooperation with India.
During the meeting, the sides also discussed the current state of relations between Kyrgyzstan and India, including issues of inter-parliamentary interaction. This, as Dzhumabekov said, is facilitated by the study of the Kyrgyz parliamentarians and government officials of the Indian experience in parliamentarism and public administration through the Indian Technical & Economic Cooperation Programme (ITEC).
“The Kyrgyz-Indian relations are reaching a new level of development and meet the long-term interests of the two countries. Our task is to contribute to this process across the entire spectrum of relations, including increasement trade and economic cooperation and bringing it up to one hundred million dollars in the next 2-3 years,” the Speaker said, noting the low level of trade turnover between the two countries.
Dzhumabekov focused the Ambassador’s attention on the high dynamics of the inter-parliamentary interaction between the two countries and positively noted the visit of Indian Prime Minister Modi to Kyrgyzstan in July 2015. In this regard, the Speaker said that the issue of organizing Modi’s official visit to Kyrgyzstan is currently being considered as part of his participation in a meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council meeting in June in Bishkek.
Speaking about the development of the trade and economic cooperation, Dzhumabekov also reported on the liberal legislative base of the Kyrgyz Republic for foreign investors, including Indian ones.
In turn, Ambassador Alok Amitabh Dimri thanked Dzhumabekov for the warm welcome and informed him about his plans for the development of the Kyrgyz-Indian relations.
The Ambassador said that in his diplomatic activity he would pay special attention to the issues of inter-parliamentary interaction, increasement of trade and economic ties and strengthening of cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two states.
The diplomat also positively noted the training of a large number of Indian students in universities in Kyrgyzstan and proposed to deepen ties in the field of education.
At the end of the conversation, the Speaker wished the Ambassador success in his responsible activities aimed at developing the Kyrgyz-Indian relations.
