Special Adviser to UN Secretary-General on Climate Action stresses role of Kyrgyzstan in advancing mountain agenda

Bishkek, April 12, 2022. / Kabar /. Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan to the UN in New York, Aida Kasymalieva, met on April 11 with Special Adviser to UN Secretary-General on Climate Action Selwin Hart.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, during the conversation, Kasymalieva informed about the initiatives of Kyrgyzstan on the mining agenda. In particular, she noted the establishment in 2019 of the Group of Friends of Mountainous Countries, created to promote the development of dialogue and cooperation on assistance to mountainous countries, as well as the resolutions adopted by the UN General Assembly on this topic. In this regard, in order to further attract the attention of the world community to the problems of mountainous regions and help their sustainable development, she informed about further actions and plans of the Kyrgyz side.

In turn, SelwIn Hart noted the particular vulnerability of mountainous countries in the light of climate change, outlined the role of Kyrgyzstan in advancing the mountain agenda, and also expressed his readiness to assist Kyrgyzstan in this direction.
