Bishkek, Oct. 2, 2024. / Kabar/. Special Representative of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic for the Implementation of the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions Dinara Kemelova held a meeting with Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to Kyrgyzstan Nazirmad Alizoda.
The press service of the Kyrgyz president said that during the meeting, international initiatives on sustainable mountain development, glaciers and water issues were discussed.
Dinara Kemelova positively assessed Tajikistan's water initiatives, spoke about the mountain initiatives of the Kyrgyz Republic within the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), noting that mountainous regions are most vulnerable to climate change, including mountain communities and ecosystems of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
The parties expressed their intention to actively cooperate within the framework of the UN, the UNFCCC and other international platforms to promote mountain initiatives, to preserve glaciers and to attract the attention of the global community to the problems of mountainous countries such as melting glaciers, natural disasters in the mountains, loss of biodiversity, degradation of mountain pastures, the negative effects of climate change on mountainous regions, etc.
