SSEP, OSCE sign project on reduction of radicalization in prisons

Bishkek, Mar. 13, 2019. /Kabar/. Chairman of the State Service for the Execution of Punishment (SSEP) of Kyrgyzstan Melis Turganbayev, and head of the OSCE Programme Office Pierre von Arx signed a cooperation plan of activities to effectively prevent violent radicalization in prisons and support the implementation of the National Penitentiary Strategy 2018-2023 on March 12, 2019.

The press service of the State Service for the Execution of Punishment reported that the project’s objectives are to strengthen the capacity of the penal system in preventing radicalization in prisons, promoting social rehabilitation and reintegration programs for prisoners, as well as supporting the State Service for the Execution of Punishment in implementing the penitentiary system development strategy for 2018-2023.

Within the framework of the project, a number of activities are planned for 2019, in particular, the OSCE will assist in strengthening the working conditions for the new State Probation Service of the State Service for the Execution of Punishment and in developing psychotherapeutic methods as part of rehabilitation programs for juvenile offenders and women convicted of crimes of terrorist and extremist nature. “We will work fruitfully,” head of the SSEP Turganbayev said after the signing of the interaction plan.
