Bishkek, Apr. 5, 2019. /Kabar/. The State Service for Execution of Punishment (SSEP) plans to re-establish production departments in all prisons in the country, First Deputy Chairman of the State Service for Execution of Punishment Taalaibek Nuraliev told at a press conference at the Kabar News Agency.
He said that during the times of the USSR, there were production workshops in each prison. “But, unfortunately, these workshops were lost. We plan to find investors so that the prisoners can work, earn money and thus provide for their relatives. Recently, a brickyard has been opened in colony No. 16, where 82 convicts are currently working, their average salary is 15 thousand soms,” Nuraliev said.
According to him, the service does not want to wait for help from the government and is looking for investors. “We counted, and it turned out that in order to open one shop, about 10-15 million soms are required,” Nuraliev said.
According to him, there are a total of 15 thousand convicts in the country. Of these, 6,000 are in closed institutions, 2,500 - in correctional colonies, 4,500 people have been registered by the Inspection of the SSEP, etc.
