Bishkek, March 30, 2020 / Kabar /. Journalists will not be given accreditation for moving around the city in a state of emergency, Vice Minister of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Almaz Orozaliev told Monday during a briefing in the Government House.
He said that this is done for the benefit of the journalists themselves. “In connection with the numerous appeals of the media, I want to give a little explanation. The Constitutional Law of the Kyrgyz Republic “On the state of emergency” clearly states that a state of emergency is a temporary measure applied exclusively in the interests of ensuring the safety of the population, allowing the establishment of certain restrictions on the rights and freedoms of citizens, imposing additional obligations on them,” the commandant said.
He noted that the usual daily routine had changed, which did not bypass the activities of the media.
“Laws are the same for everyone, including media representatives. At the same time, in order to ensure full-fledged activity of the media and their convenience, daily online briefings are held,” he said adding that all questions can be sent to WhatsApp number.
“Earlier, I touched on the issue of accreditation of journalists for the period of emergency. We have analyzed the situation. In order to ensure the health security of the journalists themselves, we cannot issue accreditations,” said Orozaliev.
In his opinion, this is primarily due to the safety of the health of journalists.
The commandant asked journalists to comply with the requirements of the state of emergency. “Today is the age of technology, many in the world are working remotely,” said the commandant.
He noted that through the Internet and other communication channels now journalists can get the whole range of answers to questions.
“Coronavirus infection is a new challenge for all of humanity, including Kyrgyzstan. In the fight against it, we must be united and temporarily put aside political or other views, preferences and unite against this challenge, Orozaliev said.
In this regard, he asked reporters to distribute only reliable information provided by the Republican headquarters, commandant's offices and relevant state bodies.
To date 84 COVID-19 cases are registered in Kyrgyzstan. The most of them are in the south of the country. 39 of them are in Jalal-Abad oblast, 33 in Osh oblast, 7 in the city of Bishkek, 3 in Chui oblast, 1 in Batken oblast, and 1 case in Naryn oblast.
Kyrgyzstan declared a state of emergency from March 25 till April 15, 2020 in its capital city and some regions in the south of the country to prevent the further spread of coronavirus infection.
Thus, a curfew is imposed in the cities of Bishkek, Osh and Jalal-Abad, Nookat, Kara-Suu regions of Osh oblast, as well as in Suzak region of Jalal-Abad oblast.
