Statement by Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry in response to UN secretary general's call for global ceasefire amid COVID-19 pandemic

Bishkek, Apr. 30, 2020. /Kabar/. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan issued a statement in response to UN Secretary General António Guterres’ appeal of March 23, 2020 for a global ceasefire amid COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the press service of the Kyrgyz MFA, the statement says:

"The Kyrgyz Republic, as a peace-loving state that advocates observance of the principles of non-use of force and threat of force, non-interference in internal affairs, respect for territorial integrity and peaceful settlement of international disputes, as enshrined in the UN Charter and other international instruments, supports the call of UN Secretary General António Guterres for a global ceasefire and intensification of international cooperation for a successful confrontation with the COVID-19 pandemic.

We note with deep concern the continuing spread of the coronavirus pandemic, which poses a major threat to human health and security, and draw attention to its adverse effects, such as a serious disruption to public life and the economic development of states globally, including its adverse impact on human well-being.

We advocate enhanced international cooperation and a global response based on unity, solidarity and strengthened multilateral cooperation to successfully confront the pandemic. We regret to note that the highest price in the fight against the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic is paid by the most vulnerable segments of humanity, against the backdrop of ongoing armed conflicts”.
