Bishkek, Sept. 13, 2018 / Kabar /. Surveillance cameras will be installed in all temporary detention facilities in Kyrgyzstan. The supervising prosecutor will have online access to the records of surveillance cameras.
Details of this issue and measures against torture were discussed by Deputy Interior Minister Almaz Orozaliyev and visiting experts of the UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture. During the visit, they will assess the measures taken against torture and ill-treatment, and will review the implementation of recommendations.
The meeting was attended by members of the UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture and Degrading Treatment and Punishment: Viktor Zakharia, head of delegation (Moldova), Costa Dragan Mitrovic (Serbia), Maria Definis-Goianovic (Croatia), Abdalla Unnir (Morocco ), June Karidad Pagaduan Lopez (Philippines), Aneta Stanchevska (Macedonia) and others.
During the meeting, Orozaliyev made a report on the implementation of recommendations of the UN Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture following a visit to the Kyrgyz Republic in 2012.
Orozaliyev said that in order to prevent torture, an order was issued to approve the Regulations on the video surveillance system in the republic's temporary detention facilities, chiefs of the police departments were entrusted to install surveillance cameras in all temporary detention facilities.
Currently, 281 surveillance cameras and 315 alarms are installed in the police stations.
