Bishkek, Jan.30, 2020 /Kabar/. Deputy Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Altynai Omurbekova met with a parliamentary delegation from the Kingdom of Sweden, led by First Deputy Speaker of the Riksdag (Parliament) Åsa Lindestam, the Government’s press service said Thursday.
Altynai Omurbekova noted the Kyrgyz side attaches great importance to cooperation across the entire spectrum of relations with Sweden, and this visit will serve as an incentive to intensify bilateral cooperation between the countries.
She said about parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan, to be held in October 2020, and invited Swedish MPs to participate as international observers in monitoring of the election process.
"Our republic is interested in attracting Swedish investments into the economy and is ready to assist Swedish business in every possible way. Given the importance of expanding cooperation, I would like to invite representatives of Swedish business to take part in the first economic “European Union - Central Asia” Business Forum, which will be held in July 2020 in Bishkek," she said.
Recalling that Sweden had achieved great results in the area of gender equality and protection of children's rights, the deputy prime minister stressed the Kyrgyz Republic also considered those areas as priorities.
"The Kyrgyz Republic has adopted a number of laws ensuring equal rights for women to actively participate in political life. At the legislative level, measures have been taken to ensure a mandatory quota of 30% in Parliament for representatives of the same gender.
In Kyrgyzstan, 2020 has been declared the Year of the Regional Development, Digitalization of the Country and support for Children.
Special attention has been paid to comprehensive support for children, and most government plans will support the implementation of projects to develop the potential of children.
In addition, the protection of the rights of the country's elderly population occupies a special place in the development of the state's social policy," said Altynai Omurbekova.
First Deputy Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, head of the delegation Åsa Lindestam expressed gratitude to Omurbekova for the meeting, noting the main goal of the parliamentary delegation's visit to the Kyrgyz Republic is to strengthen the Kyrgyz-Swedish relations.
The Swedish side expressed readiness to share the experience of implementing reforms in the sphere of economy, social development, gender equality, protection of children and other spheres of interest of the Kyrgyz side.
The sides also discussed cooperation in the area of culture, innovative technologies, the representation of women in legislative bodies, the development of the youth parliament, young families, education and the improvement of electoral legislation.
Note that, on Jan. 29 the Swedish delegation has already met with President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov and Speaker of the Parliament Dastanbek Dzhumabekov.
Also, Bishkek hosted on Wednesday meeting of Kyrgyz and Swedish MPs.
