Tajik border guards invade on Kyrgyzstan’s territory, open fire

Bishkek, June 3, 2022. /Kabar/. An incident involving the use of weapons occurred on Friday on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border, the press service of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of Kyrgyzstan said.

While on duty in Bulak-Bashy area of Batken region of Batken Oblast, a border guard unit of SCNS Border Service detected border guards of the Tajikistan’s State Committee for National Security who had illegally crossed the conditional border line and entered Kyrgyz territory.

The Tajik border guards opened fire on the Kyrgyz servicemen.

An exchange of fire ensued between the border guards of the two countries, during which the Tajik side used mortars.

According to preliminary data, there are no injuries or casualties on the Kyrgyz side.

In order to stabilize the situation, head of the State Committee for National Security for Batken Oblast, Colonel Tolonbaev and commander of the Batken border detachment, Colonel Mirshakirov went to the site of the incident.

The SCNS Border Service of Kyrgyzstan notes that despite the telephone talks and agreements on ceasefire held today, the Tajik side does not cease fire.

As of 1 p.m., the exchange of fire is continuing.

The SCNS Border Service is taking all measures to prevent an escalation of the situation and calls on its Tajik colleagues to immediately stop firing at Kyrgyz positions.
