Tajik side burning houses in Kyrgyz villages: Batken Oblast governor

Bishkek, Sept. 17, 2022 . / Kabar / . Ak-Sai village was liberated at night, our units worked there. Now villages in Leilek region, Borborduk, Zhany-Zher and Arka villages are very problematic areas, the Tajik side is burning houses, Governor of Kyrgyzstan's Batken Oblast Abdikarim Alimbaev said.

"We are now demanding the Tajik side to stop the unrest. We are now working to cease the fire. There have been clashes since morning in a number of villages," the governor added.

The clashes on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border started on Sept. 14.

According to the Board Guard Service of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan attacked border guarding and civilian infrastructure objects of Kyrgyzstan along the perimeter of the state border in Batken Oblast.

On Sept. 16 evening, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan reached agreement on ceasefire. However, the Tajik side having violated the previously reached agreements, fired mortars at Kyrgyz villages in another Osh Oblast of Kyrgyzstan on Saturday.
