DUSHANBE (TCA) — The Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan has started rehabilitating the 1.85-km Korvon market road in the Tajik capital Dushanbe. The works are being done under the Dushanbe-Bokhtar road rehabilitation project financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and co-financed by the OPEC Fund for International Development, ADB’s Tajikistan Resident Mission said on June 23.
The $2.86 million contract to rehabilitate the Korvon market road is signed with the Tajik company Rohsoz-7 that was selected following ADB's national bidding procedures. The rehabilitation works are expected to be completed in 180 days.
ADB approved phase 1 of the Dushanbe-Bokhtar road rehabilitation project in November 2016 to improve connectivity between the two major cities and economic hubs in Tajikistan and enhance the safety of the country's highway network. The second phase of the project was approved in March 2018. ADB's total financing for the project amounts to $157 million, including around $108 million in grants. The OPEC Fund for International Development provided a $12 million cofinancing loan. The rehabilitation of the Dushanbe-Bokhtar road is planned for completion in October 2021.
