On Thursday at 2:00 p.m., border troops and special forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan began massive shelling, including mortars, machine guns and automatic rifles of the Golovnoi water intake located in the village of Kok-Tash, Batken region, the press service of Kyrgyzstan’s State Committee for National Security said.
First Deputy Chairman of the National Security Committee, Director of the State Border Service of Kyrgyzstan Ularbek Sharsheyev is on site and is coordinating the situation and taking measures to localize the armed border conflict provoked by Tajik border guards.
Situation on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan escalated on April 28 after citizens of Tajikistan began installing video surveillance cameras at the water intake in the village of Kok-Tash in Batken region.
As a result of the joint altercation, residents of the two countries began throwing stones at each other. Subsequently, the Tajik side began shooting at passing cars of Kyrgyz citizens with hunting rifles.
As a result, 8 Kyrgyz citizens were injured, one of them received a gunshot wound to the eye. The situation at the border is assessed as aggravated.
