Bishkek, Feb. 8, 2018 / Kabar /. On Feb. 8, 2018 the Tajik side unilaterally suspended temporarily border crossing of persons, vehicles and goods at Kulundu-road and Kairagach-road checkpoints at the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border, the press service of the State Border Service of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The Kulundu-road checkpoint is an international border crossing point, so the imposed restrictions do not apply to third-country nationals who can cross the state border through the checkpoint.
In addition, on Feb. 8, Tajikistan's border guards closed a bridge in the Sai village of Leilek region in Batken oblast and set up border patrols there, increasing the number of servicemen.
The Tajik side suspended the functioning of the checkpoints and closed the bridge in the Sai village after local residents built a bridge in another village of Leilek region of Batken region for schoolchildren, who have to walk long distances to get to the school. According to local residents, Tajik border guards make it difficult for schoolchildren to travel.
At the moment, the border representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are holding a meeting, the main issue of which is the stabilization of the situation in the Kyrgyz-Tajik sector of the state border.
