The amount of the external debt of Tajikistan since the beginning of this year increased by $10.2 million. As of April 1, the total amount of the external debt of the republic amounted to $2.28 billion. At the beginning of the year, this figure was $2.27 billion.
According to preliminary data of the Ministry of Finance, the structure of the external debt includes $2.1 billion of direct public debt, which ensures the performance of services of the country’s government. Debt with the state guarantee amounts to $23.3 million.
Debts of state-owned enterprises that do not have a government guarantee amounted to $31.5 million.
The debt of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) is $121.6 million. In particular, the banks owes $108 million to the International Monetary Fund, $9 million to China, and another $4.6 million to the Islamic Development Bank.
At the end of last year, the country's finance minister Abdusalom Kurbonien said that these funds will be used to implement 98 investment projects that are of priority importance for the republic. In particular, these projects cover such areas as energy, transport communications, agriculture and education.
Tajikistan intends to attract $215 million from external sources of financing till the end of this year.
At the same time, about $140 million will be spent on servicing the external debt.
The main creditor of Tajikistan at the moment is China, which accounts for more than half of the total external debt that is $1.2 billion.
