Tashkent starts trial of elder daughter of first Uzbek President Karimov

Tashkent, Jan.8, 2020. /Kabar/. The Criminal Court of Tashkent City has begun on Wednesday hearing on another criminal case against Gulnara Karimova and others.

According to the press service of the Supreme Court, the hearing is being held in private session.

On Monday, the Prosecutor General's Office announced the completion of the investigation of the criminal case against the daughter of First President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, and other individuals who committed crimes related to extortion, embezzlement of public funds and money laundering in foreign countries.

Since March 2019, Gulnara Karimova has been held in general regime colony No. 21 of Zangiata district, Tashkent Region.

In August, the press service of the General Prosecutor's Office said that it had instituted new criminal proceedings against Karimova for embezzling public funds and making deals contrary to Uzbekistan's interests, as well as for appropriation of property of another in a particularly large amount through extortion.

In December, the supervisory body reported another criminal case "on newly discovered circumstances" and reports from international agencies and citizens.
