Teacher remains most demanded profession among students in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Feb. 24, 2021 / Kabar /. The profession of a teacher remains the most popular among students, the National Statistics Committee said.

At the beginning of the 2020-2021 academic year, there were 138 secondary vocational educational institutions in the republic, where about 96 thousand people study, more than half of them (56%) are girls.

The most popular specialties among applicants to secondary vocational schools in the 2020-2021 academic year were education, where 26% of the total number of applicants were enrolled, healthcare - 18%, economics and management - 14%, and technical specialties - 13%.

Compared to the 2016-2017 academic year, the largest increase in the number of applicants was observed in the specialties of informatics and computing (by 49%) and education (by 21%), while the number of applicants for the specialties of agriculture and fisheries decreased by 2 times, the economy and management - by almost 17%.

At the beginning of the 2020-2021 academic year, 57 higher professional educational institutions functioned in the republic, where more than 214 thousand people study, more than half of them (52%) are girls.

The greatest demand among students is pedagogical sciences - 24% of the total number of students, humanitarian and social - 23%, medical specialties - about 15%, economic specialties - 12% and technical - 11%.

Compared to 2016-2017, the number of applicants, who apply for specialty of pedagogical sciences increased (3.3 times), economic specialties (2.7 times), medical specialties (2.6 times), as well as humanitarian and social specialties ( 1.8 times).
