UNHCR reps familiarize with Kyrgyzstan's laws in civil area

Bishkek, Jan.25, 2020./Kabar/. Meeting of leadership of Kyrgyz Justice Ministry and representatives of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) took place in Bishkek on Saturday.

Maksatbek Esenaliyev, Deputy Minister of Justice held meeting with UNHCR Senior Protection Officer in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan Daniela Popovic-Efendic, UNHCR Regional Representation for Central Asia Legal Adviser Vitalina Kirilovska and National Legal Adviser at UNHCR Representation for Kyrgyzstan Asel Sharsheyeva.

During the meeting, Maksatbek Esenaliyev informed about the activities of the Kyrgyz Justice Ministry and the reforms being carried out within the framework of the tasks, set by the country's leadership, the ministry's press service reported.

In turn, the UNHCR representatives stressed the fruitful work of state bodies and other entities in the field of reduction of statelessness, and asked about the bills promoted by the Justice Ministry of the country.

At the same time, they expressed particular interest in the draft law "On deprivation of the Kyrgyz Republic deprivation."

Deputy Minister Esenaliyev informed the UNHCR representatives about the stages of promotion of the draft laws (On Amendments to the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic "On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Kyrgyz Republic", the draft law of the Kyrgyz Republic "On Acts of Civil Status"), and also noted the need to create an expanded working group with the involvement of qualified experts in this area to further discuss the draft law "On deprivation of the Kyrgyz Republic citizenship".

The UNHCR representatives, taking into account the possibility of creating conditions for increasing the number of stateless persons after the adoption of the draft law, expressed their readiness to provide any assistance to the working group.
