Jogorku Kenesh approves ratification of SCO Convention on countering extremism on II reading

Bishkek, Oct. 12, 2018. /Kabar/. Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh reviewed and approved a draft law on ratification of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Convention on Countering Extremism on the second reading. The document was signed on June 9, 2017 in the city of Astana.

The convention provides for the mechanisms of interaction of the SCO member states in the field of preventive activities, jointly countering extremism, providing legal assistance in the framework of operational-search, investigative and other legal proceedings, and also contributes to the unification of the legislation of the Parties in the field of countering extremism.

An important and topical innovation of the Convention is a common vision of the legal basis for countering a violent impingement on legitimate authority, not only in the context of growing terrorist threats, but also in the broader sense of preventing any encroachment on the constitutional system, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state.
