Bishkek, Feb. 20, 2019. /Kabar/. The task of the National Testing is to ensure equal and fair access to higher education, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic Nadira Jusupbekova told at a press conference at the Kabar News Agency on Wednesday.
She said that the National Testing has been conducted in Kyrgyzstan since 2002 and is one of the largest anti-corruption projects in the field of education, which performs an important public task to ensure equal access to higher education. The purpose of the National Testing is selection of the most capable applicants who can continue their education at universities of Kyrgyzstan.
“If in 2015 only 47% of high school graduates had the opportunity to enroll in higher education institutions, in recent years this figure has improved and in 2017 it already reached 57%. By regions, the situation has also improved. If a few years ago in Talas, the National Testing rates were low, this year the oblast made a significant leap. As for the rest of the regions, the indicators are also very good,” she said.
As noted by the Deputy Minister, it is too early to talk about how many prospective students there will be for the 2019-2020 academic year. “As a rule, every year the total number of graduates who completed grade 11 is around 60 thousand people, the ninth grade is completed by about 90 thousand schoolchildren. However, not all of them go on to continue their studies at higher education institutions. Therefore, it is impossible to say now how many prospective students there will be in this academic year,” Jusupbekova explained.
