There are a lot of similarities in ancient Scotland and ancient Kyrgyzstan, British director

Famous director of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in London Sarah Bernard, who came to Kyrgyzstan to stage Macbeth and Richard III together with Kyrgyz artists, answered the questions of Kabar News Agency.

- There are not so many opportunities in theatres in Kyrgyzstan to create some special effects and make up a show like in the West. How do you solve this problem?

- I had a meeting yesterday with designer of the project. We are making it very simple so we can transport it to London or anywhere else in the world if we want. And because with Shakespeare it is about the words and it is not about costumes and scenery so much. We are not going to record any music we are going to have actors they will make all of the sounds on their own.

Everybody will be involved through the whole play and they will make the world of Macbeth.

- Are there some different things in setting up Shakespeare on the Kyrgyz stage?

- I am setting it in 12 centaury. I have been researching that there are a lot of similarities in ancient Scotland and ancient Kyrgyzstan. So I want to use all of your traditions and weave them in with our traditions.

- Do you have ın futere plans to make some other projects in Kyrgyzstan?

- I am very interested in reaching other women artists. Especially - women. I want to set up women project here. That is the next thing I would like to do. With poetry, painting, film, theatre, journalism - all of it, because it is very unusual and not just because I am British, but because I am a woman. That means a real opportunity to make connections with a very talented female artists I have met being here.

- What was the first impression when you came to Kyrgyzstan?

- First of all, it is a very beautiful nature. The mountains are breathtaking and I have been incredibly touched by how friendly and inviting and hospitable are Kyrgyz people are.

- Do you have already some plans for your next visit?

- I want to see Issyk-Kul and spent wonderful time there. All the time I am trying to learn about Kyrgyzstan, Kyrgyz culture, because it is very different. And I want to assimilate. So I am not just bringing English culture and forcing it on top. I want to find a way for collaboration.
