There are about 198 thsd disabled people in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Dec. 3, 2021 . / Kabar /. The International Day of People with Disabilities is celebrated annually on Dec. 3. It is aimed at raising public awareness about the needs of such people.

The National Statistics Committee of Kyrgyzstan reported that as of Jan. 1, 2021 there were about 198 thousand people with disabilities in the republic, or about 3% of the total population. Over the past five years, their number increased by 10.5%.

Of the total number of persons with disabilities, more than 165 thousand were adults, or 4% of the adult population, and compared to 2016 their number increased by 10.4%.

The number of children with disabilities under the age of 18 amounted to more than 32 thousand, or 1.3% of the total number of children of this age group. Compared to 2016, the number of children with disabilities grew by 11.3%.

The main causes of disability among the adult population are diseases of the circulatory system - they accounted for almost 23% in 2020 compared to 21.5% in 2016, malignant neoplasms, respectively, 12.9% (11% in 2016), diseases due to injuries, poisoning and other effects of external causes about 11% (about 14% in 2016).

In recent years, on average, almost 4 thousand children in the republic have been assigned disability status for the first time each year, with more than 44% of them being girls.

In 2020 there were 18 general education organizations (schools) for children with special needs in the republic with 3.3 thousand children with disabilities, or only 10 percent of their total number.
