There are more women than men in Kyrgyzstan – statistics

Bishkek, Nov. 23, 2021 . / Kabar / . In Kyrgyzstan, there were 99 men for every 100 women last year, the National Statistics Committee of the republic said Tuesday.

This is due to the high mortality rate among men, which is 1.3 times higher than among women.

In 2020, life expectancy at birth was 76 years for women and 68 years - for men. Thus, there is still a gender gap in the indicator of average life expectancy - 8 years.

In 2020, a total of 81,154 boys were born across Kyrgyzstan, 5.5% more than girls (76,958). Every year 105-106 boys are born per 100 girls in the republic.

In recent years, there has been a decline in fertility among girls of premarital age (15-17 years old) from 6.4 children per 1,000 girls of this age in 2016 to 4.3 children in 2020, or nearly 1.5 times.

Fertility among women in the 18-19 age group also declined: from 84.0 children per 1,000 women of that age in 2016 to 81.1 children in 2020.

The average age of a mother at childbirth in the republic was 28.1 years.
