According to data of the Center for State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance of Bishkek, 799 cases of acute intestinal infection were registered in 5 months against 600 cases last year. There is an increase in the incidence rate by 29.9%, the press service of the Bishkek Mayor's Office reported.
According to data, in the context of 723 cases of enteritis of unknown etiology were registered against 518 for the same period in 2020 (an increase of 34.2%). The incidence of acute dysentery increased by 40%. Children under two years of age are more likely to get sick, which is associated with non-observance of personal hygiene on the part of parents when caring for children, as well as with a violation of the storage and consumption of low-quality food products.
The increase in the incidence is recorded most often in residential areas of the city, which is facilitated by insufficient provision of drinking water in residential areas, interruptions in water supply in full, especially in the daytime, due to the use of tap water for irrigating household plots and household needs.
Also, in the last week, there has been an increase in the number of children with acute intestinal infectious disease symptoms in the City Children's Clinical Emergency Hospital.
The city health department held a meeting with the heads of city health organizations on the current situation of infectious diseases in the city of Bishkek. As a result of the meeting, it was instructed to strengthen the work of oral rehydration centers (ORA) in family medicine centers, to intensify awareness-raising work on the prevention of acute intestinal infection and personal hygiene.
