There is less housework in life of men in Kyrgyzstan, but there is more television and sports - study

Bishkek, Dec. 15, 2021. / Kabar /. The National Statistics Committee of Kyrgyzstan prepared the results of a survey of the time budget.

According to the document, domestic work is mostly female. Women devote an average of about 4 hours 20 minutes daily to housekeeping, spending 18.1% of the daily time fund for this. For men, this is 3.9% of time and amount to about one hour. Working women in rural areas spend 1.3 times more time on domestic work than women living in urban areas. Thus, in villages, working women, on average, do housework for 5 hours 25 minutes per day of the week, and in cities for 4 hours. For working men in this type of activity, the difference in time is not so great and averages 45 minutes per day of the week in villages and cities.

Women are engaged in the upbringing of the younger generation, caring for the elderly members of the family. Working women devote more than five hours a week to their children. For men, this time is about one and a half hours. Women in rural areas devote more time to raising children (about 5 hours 43 minutes a week) than women in urban areas (4 hours 26 minutes a week).

Men have almost an hour more free time than women, and this is typical for both urban and rural areas. As noted above, women spend much more time on household chores than men.

Therefore, the only time reserve that women can use in order to spend more time on domestic work is to reduce their free time. Every day, the population has more than 4 hours of free time for rest and entertainment. The main type of recreation throughout the republic is watching television, which takes both men and women half of their free time.

Men watch TV programs on average 2 hours 17 minutes a day, and women 1 hour 45 minutes. Men devote about an hour daily to communication with other people, women - a little more than 40 minutes.

An active type of recreation (sports, walking) takes the population on average 2 hours a week, and in cities this time is 1.3 times more than in rural areas. Men are involved in sports 2 times more often than women.
