Bishkek, May 23, 2022 / Kabar /. Monkeypox has not been registered in Kyrgyzstan, according to the country’s Ministry of Health.
The Department of Disease Prevention and State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic said that as of May 23, the latest new cases were registered in France, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Sweden, Australia, the USA and Canada. The disease has not been registered in Central Asia.
Monkeypox is a rare viral infection that is also transmitted between humans.
It is usually a mild disease and most people recover within a few weeks, but complications can occur sometimes. Experts emphasize that monkeypox is not considered a sexually transmitted infection, but can be spread through close contact with an infected person.
Initial symptoms of the disease include fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, swollen lymph nodes, chills, and exhaustion. Within 1 to 3 days (sometimes longer) after the appearance of fever, the patient develops a rash, often beginning on the face then spreading to other parts of the body.
The incubation period (time from infection to symptoms) for monkeypox is usually 7−14 days but can range from 5−21 days.
In order to take care of yourself and reduce the risk of disease, follow the recommendations of WHO:
- avoid contact with sick primates
- refrain from eating meat from wild animals
- regularly sanitize hands
- observe personal hygiene
- protect yourself during intercourse
- avoid close contact with strangers or travelers.
