Bishkek, June 13, 2022. / Kabar /. Minister of Agriculture Askarbek Dzhanybekov during a briefing in Bishkek promised that there would be no shortage of food in the country.
The minister noted that last year they also guaranteed that there would be no major shocks in terms of physical affordability for basic food products.
"We kept our promise - there was no acute shortage, as well as serious price fluctuations," he said.
He further added that Kyrgyzstan cannot live separately, as there is an influence of external markets both in terms of quality and price. Thus, the prices that are formed today for basic foodstuffs in Kyrgyzstan are adapted to the prices that are outside the country.
“However, I must say that for the main items - for flour, sugar, butter - our prices are much lower than in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan. This year, we can safely predict a serious increase in the production of food wheat compared to last year, the volume of potatoes, oil crops (from 13% to 19%). For example, if we need 769,000 tons of wheat in the country, then we plan to grow about 665,000 tons from our own harvest,” the minister said.
He further promised that there would be no sharp price hikes, as well as shortages.
