Bishkek, March 3, 2022 . / Kabar / . Tourism in the Kyrgyz Republic has been on the verge of bankruptcy for two years, Sergey Glukhoverov, the president of the Kyrgyz Association of Tour Operators (KATO) said during a briefing on Thursday.
He clarified that tourism in Kyrgyzstan is not only Issyk-Kul Lake, but also a large number of built guest houses.
"Some of them have already closed, some are going to close. But even this year we do not expect a large flow of tourists. In this regard, we have sent an official letter to the Ministry of Economy to help the world of tourism and reduce tax rates. The price is getting higher and we are not competitive with other countries," Glukhoverov explained.
In addition, representatives of the Association also ask for assistance in customs clearance of vehicles.
"Today, our drivers have to pay 20% for clearance of new cars, as well as VAT. We ask to do on the example of Uzbekistan, where a customs clearance is set at 3 % for vehicles in tourist purposes,” the KATO president appealed.
