Townspeople become poorer, well-being of villagers is growing in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, June 13, 2018. / Kabar /. According to the research for 2017, poverty in Kyrgyzstan, in rural areas decreased by 0.6%, and in cities, by contrast, increased by 1.8%, the National Statistics Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

Thu, in 2017, 1 million 601 thousand people lived in the country below the poverty line, of which 72% were rural residents. According to data of the Statistics Commitee, poverty reduction was registered in Naryn oblast by 8.6%, Osh - by 7.8%, and Issyk-Kul - by 0.6%. In other regions, the growth rate was observed: with the largest of its growth was recorded in the north and south of the capital - Bishkek by 6.1%, while in Osh 8.9%.

"The level of extreme poverty was 0.8% and remained at the level of the previous year. Above the poverty line 47 thousand people lived, of which 85% were residents of rural settlements," the committee reports.

The extreme poverty was observed in Talas oblast and in Bishkek, while the figure was almost reduced to zero in Osh and Jalal-Abad oblasts. At the same time, in Chui oblast the level of extreme poverty decreased by 1.4%, in Osh - by 0.8%, in Naryn - by 0.6%. The growth of extreme poverty was registered in Batken oblast by 3.1% and in the city of Osh by 1.2%.
