Trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Russia grows by 27% this year

Bishkek, Nov. 25, 2024. /Kabar/. Trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Russia has grown by 27% this year, Russian Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Sergei Vakunov told today at a press conference in Bishkek.

The diplomat noted that Kyrgyz banks have stopped financial transactions with Russian banks that were subject to sanctions. At the same time, transactions continue with banks that were not subject to sanctions.

"Kyrgyz banks are obliged to do this, because otherwise, they could be disconnected from the SWIFT system, and then the country's economic life would stop. This was a forced measure," he said.

According to data of Sergei Vakunov, in the first 9 months of 2024, trade turnover between the two countries increased by 27% compared to the same period last year. "This shows that trade is growing. More than 90% of trade transactions between our countries are conducted in rubles. Here, neither Kyrgyzstan nor Russia violates the law," he said.
