Bishkek, Mar.17, 2020. /Kabar/. A transit through Azerbaijan, Russia and Kazakhstan will be organized for Kyrgyz truck drivers stuck in Iran, the press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry reported on Tuesday.
The Kyrgyz Government has reached an agreement with the Governments of Azerbaijan, Russia and Kazakhstan to organize a transit corridor for Kyrgyz drivers and cargo carriers.
Due to coronavirus epidemic (COVID-19) spread around the world, and the consequent closure of border by Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstani truck drivers were forced to stay in Iran.
The Kyrgyz Embassy in Tehran has taken this issue under constant control and is providing assistance to drivers who were forced to stay in Iran due to COVID-19 outbreak, namely:
- An agreement has been reached with the Foreign Ministry and other competent Iranian ministries and agencies to provide maximum assistance to Kyrgyz cargo carriers, including the free extension of Iranian visas and the abolition of fines for expired visas;
- A letter was sent and a telephone conversation was organized between Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Transport and Roads Janat Beishenov and Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami, during which the Iranian side expressed readiness to exempt Kyrgyz drivers from paying the transit fees usually levied on them in Iran;
- Consul of the Kyrgyz Embassy in Iran made on Mar.7-11 visit to Sarakhs and Lutfabad checkpoints, and meetings were held with Kyrgyz drivers, as well as with the leadership of the above border customs of Iran.
- As of Mar.17 this year, all Kyrgyz drivers from the Sarakhs and Lutfabad checkpoints completed their transit and customs documents, and departed in the direction of the Iranian-Azerbaijani border.
