Tuberculosis rates in Kyrgyzstan were 85 cases per 100 thousand people in 2018

The incidence of tuberculosis in Kyrgyzstan was 85 cases per 100 thousand people, and the mortality rate was 4.5% in 2018, Director of the National Center for Phthisiology Abdullaat Kadyrov told at the round table "It's Time to End TB," timed to coincide with the World Tuberculosis Day.

He said that the number of cases of drug-resistant tuberculosis increases every year, which in 2009 was 835 cases, in 2017 – 1 206 and in 2016 – 1 176.

“After the collapse of the USSR, an increase in the incidence of tuberculosis was observed in Kyrgyzstan, there were also high rates of incidence of drug-resistant tuberculosis due to poor access to appropriate medications. Since then, we have achieved progress and reduced morbidity by 50%, and mortality by 15%,” Kadyrov said.

This event is aimed at strengthening measures to combat tuberculosis and promote the elimination of this disease in Kyrgyzstan. The participants of the round table had the opportunity to share the experience accumulated over the long years of implementation of a tuberculosis program at the national level, and will also have the opportunity to discuss achievements and challenges, compare the plan for further steps and reach agreement on key issues.
