Bishkek, Jan.20, 2020. /Kabar/. Turkey’s capital Ankara will host events, dedicated to the memory of outstanding Kyrgyz stateswoman Kurmanjan Datka, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan said.
Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Turkey Kubanychbek Omuraliyev met on Friday with Yalchin Topchu, Senior Advisor to President of Turkey.
"At the meeting, the sides agreed to hold on Feb.1, 2020 in Ankara a joint event, dedicated to the memory of legendary Kurmanjan Datka,” the report says.
During the event, Yalchin Topchu, Kubanychbek Omuraliyev and some Turkish professors are planned to make reports on the life and activities of Kurmanjan Datka.
Screening of the film about outstanding Kyrgyz stateswoman is also expected at the event.
Kurmanjan Datka or Datka Kurmanjan Mamatbai kysy, also known as "The Tsaritsa of Alai" or "The Queen of the South", was a stateswoman in Kyrgyzstan who acquiesced under duress to the annexation of that region to Russia.
When the Alai region was annexed by the Russian Empire in the second half of the 19th century, Kurmanjan urged Kyrgyz people to not fight against the Russian army.
In 2014, the film Kurmanjan Datka – Queen of the Mountains was released, providing a dramatically interpreted insight into the life of this political leader of Alai.
